Last Saturday we went on an impromptu trip to the snow. On Friday afternoon we were saying how much we wished we could go play, then realized there wasn't anything stopping us. :) Mark quickly brought in all the snow gear (we only needed 2 new pairs of gloves to replace missing ones) and we were set.
Saturday morning we set off. As we got further up the mountain, we were wishing it wasn't the weekend. It was insanely crowded. People were parking up and down the on/off ramps for goodness sakes! So of course going to a normal SnoPark was out of the question. We took an extra 20min and found a nice corner to park on and the kids could play right next to the car. Ok, ok, they were sledding down the pile the snow plow created, but they didn't know the difference :P and it was free. After playing, we went to the Donner Museum. We always enjoy going on the walking paths there. Unfortunately by cameras super-special-you-can't-just-go-buy-at-any-store battery died and I couldn't take our picture on "our" bridge. We'll have to go back and take it :) By 5pm we were sufficiently cold and tired so headed home. At 10:02pm we walked in the front door. Yup, the 2 hour drive took 5 hours! We were close to just getting a hotel since church doesn't start till 11am now, but figured we'd all be happier sitting in the car and sleeping in our own beds no matter how long it took. At least we had our ham radio with us for entertainment. Oh yeah...we got a ham radio. We were able to talk to people from Stockton all the way up to Chico while on the mountain. This made me happy since our phones had no bars. If anything did happen, at least we could tell someone :). All in all, it was a fun time with the fam.
(side note: the pic were I'm throwing a snowball..Brooke is in her fort that is next to the mug. It was really deep. I almost threw my arm out trying to get at her lol)
